City Clerk FAQ

Q: I would like to see how far back our family has lived in the City of Springfield. Where would I go and is there are charge for this type of research?

A: Genealogical research can be done in person during regular business hours Monday thru Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.  There is no fee for research done in our office and we have birth, marriage and death records dating from the peirod beginning 1850 to present.  Records prior to 1850 can only be searched by staff of the city Clerk's office due to the age of the books and documents.  The search fee is $20 per hour or any portion of an hour payable in advance.
